We’re celebrating Pi Day 2020 with some Shepherd’s Pie! You won’t find any peas, lamb, or mashed potatoes here, though! Our metaphorical Shepherd’s Pi(e) features five stripe colors that honor the beautiful variety of shades many of the world’s sheep breeds wear.
~ Black ~ Silver ~ Black/Brown/White ~ Brown-Red ~ Light Natural ~
Like all of our Pi Day colorways, the striping pattern is based on the numeric sequence of pi – 3.141592…, which is a non-repeating number. Thus, the stripe sequence does not repeat within the skein, and you will not be able to get a matching pair of socks (or anything) from a single skein. But if you’re a math geek, that’s part of the fun!
The sample shown was knit in our Traveler base, 48 stitches on US1.5 needles.
Shown on Traveler and Mountain Tweed, Shepherd’s Pi(e) is currently in stock on:
Heavenly – fingering, 80/10/10 SW Merino/Cashmere/Nylon, 437 yards per 100-gram skein
Mountain Tweed DK – 85/15 SW Merino/Nylon Nepp, 231 yards per 100-gram skein
We are also offering Shepherd’s Pi(e) as a dye-to-order item on the following bases:

Want this colorway on a base that isn’t in stock? Feel free to contact us through our Special Order Request form and we’ll be happy to dye it up for you if we are able!
Recommended care: Though these are superwash wools and can be machine washed, we recommend hand washing in cool water and then air dry flat.
All of our yarns and fibers are individually hand-dyed using professional grade acid dyes. Colorway names are consistent between yarns/fibers dyed with the same dye colors, however color can (and likely will) vary between skeins and between different bases.
We make every effort to assure the colors in our photos are as accurate as possible, but please note that colors can vary from monitor to monitor.
