Blue Morpho originally debuted in the second round of our Lepidoptera Club in 2024. It’s now coming to the shop as part of our Pollinators Collection.
————————
Blue Morpho is inspired by the large blue butterflies of the same name that are found in Central and South America. With a wingspan of 12 cm/4.7”, it is one of the largest butterflies in the world. While the underside of the Blue Morpho’s wings are rather mundane with their brown background, neutral outlines, and eyespots that help with self-defense, what makes the Blue Morpho so spectacular is its top side of stunning iridescent blue! (See second picture for examples of their coloring.)
Blue Morpho features four stripes, one wide Bright Morpho Blue that is alternated with three lighter stripes of Ventral Brown, Dark Morpho Blue, and Light Gray. The sample was knit in our Traveler sport weight base; the full skein shown is on Bounce.
Blue Morpho self-striping is available in-stock on the following bases:
Mountain Tweed BFL – fingering, 85/15 SW BFL/Donegal Nepp, 438 yards per 100-gram skein
Traveler – sport, 80/20 SW Merino/Nylon, 328 yards per 100-gram skein, plus 65 yd/20-gm mini
Recommended care: Though these are superwash wools and can be machine washed, we recommend hand washing in cool water and then air dry flat.
All of our yarns and fibers are individually hand-dyed using professional grade acid dyes. Colorway names are consistent between yarns/fibers dyed with the same dye colors, however color can (and likely will) vary between skeins and between different bases.
We make every effort to assure the colors in our photos are as accurate as possible, but please note that colors can vary from monitor to monitor.
