Orange Sulphur originally debuted in the second round of our Lepidoptera Club in 2024. It’s now coming to the shop as part of our Pollinators Collection.
————————
The Orange Sulphur butterfly is a little guy, only about 2”/5 cm in wingspan. He’s often one of the earliest butterflies you’ll see when temperatures begin to stay around 60 degrees F. Sulphurs fly fairly close to the ground, and you’ll notice them because their flight patterns are pretty erratic. No straight line from point A to point B for these guys! Color varies among individual butterflies, but most feature wings of yellow or orange, with some females that are white and can appear almost green in certain light. The top sides of their wings are outlined in brown or black edging. Under sides of these butterflies tend to be a yellow/yellow-green color.
Orange Sulphur features five stripes in the bright to soft oranges and yellows of these butterflies with bright green and soft brown included as representative of some of the eye spot coloration. (See second picture for examples of their coloring.) The sample was knit in our Traveler sport weight base; the full skein shown is on Bounce.
As with all of our pre-orders, you’ll receive a bonus 20-gram mini with your order. Choose from Bright Orange Eyespot (used for the toe in the sample sock), Soft Brown Eyespot (featured in the sock’s heel), or let us surprise you!

Recommended care: Though these are superwash wools and can be machine washed, we recommend hand washing in cool water and then air dry flat.
All of our yarns and fibers are individually hand-dyed using professional grade acid dyes. Colorway names are consistent between yarns/fibers dyed with the same dye colors, however color can (and likely will) vary between skeins and between different bases.
We make every effort to assure the colors in our photos are as accurate as possible, but please note that colors can vary from monitor to monitor.
