“When winter first begins to bite
and stones crack in the frosty night,
when pools are black and trees are bare,
’tis evil in the Wild to fare.”
~ Bilbo Baggins, Lord of the Rings, Second Book, Third Chapter: The Ring Goes South
The cold, dark days of winter can indeed feel foreboding. But how much is real, and how much is it our minds playing tricks? Is there a ringwraith in the dark shadows outside the window, or is it just the wind in the trees? The orange glow in the distance…is it a Balrog from the deep, or simply a fire on the hearth?
Winter’s Bite, the latest addition to our Middle Earth Imagined Collection, originally debuted as the Day 25 colorway in our 2023 A Middle Earth Winter holiday countdown. With winter biting in so many places this year, we thought it the right time to bring it to the collection.
We’ve imagined Bilbo’s winter poem in six colors: Dark Sky Blue, Deep Night Purple, Burning Orange, Glow Yellow, Warm Cape Gray, and Favorite Chair Brown — because where better to be on a frosty night than sitting comfortably in your hobbit hole before a roaring fire?

Recommended care for yarn: Though these are superwash wools and can be machine washed, we recommend hand washing in cool water and then air dry flat.
All of our yarns and fibers are individually hand-dyed using professional grade acid dyes. Colorway names are consistent between yarns/fibers dyed with the same dye colors, however color can (and likely will) vary between skeins and between different bases.
We make every effort to assure the colors in our photos are as accurate as possible, but please note that colors can vary from monitor to monitor.
