–Dye-to-Order: Chiefest of Calamaties – Middle Earth Imagined Collection

Middle Earth is full of dangers. In The Hobbit, Bilbo encountered one of the “chiefest and greatest calamities” — Smaug the Dragon. My favorite image of Smaug is the one illustrated by J. R. R. Tolkien himself, which is simlutaneously whimsical and calamitous indeed. (Click here to see a full rendering of this delightful image!)

Tolkien’s illustration was my inspiration for this Chiefest of Calamities colorway. It features five colors in Dragon Scale Red, Dragon Belly Gold, Talon Green, Smoke Wisp Gray, and Precious Things Gold.

I am offering Chiefest of Calamities as a self-striping colorway (with an optional, discounted coordinating mini) and as a mini skein set. Read on for details of each, and then choose from the drop down menu above to pick which item(s) you’d like to order.

SELF-STRIPING

Chiefest of Calamities is a five stripe colorway featuring Dragon Scale Red, Dragon Belly Gold, Talon Green, Smoke Wisp Gray, and Precious Things Gold.

Chiefest of Calamities is shown on Bounce and Mountain Tweed BFL; the sample is knit in Bounce. It is available to order on the following bases:

Bounce – fingering, 80/20 SW Merino/Nylon, 400 yards per 100-gram skein
Bedazzled – fingering, 75/20/5 SW Merino/Nylon/Silver Stellina, 438 yards per 100-gram skein

Optional Coordinating Mini – If you are ordering a self-striping skein, you’ll have the option of adding a coordinating mini skein for a flat fee of $3.50. This mini will be the same base as your self-striping skein. You are welcome to include a note with your order if you want a specific colored mini (refer to the colors listed for this colorway as your options), otherwise we will send one of our choice!

Recommended care for yarn: Though these are superwash wools and can be machine washed, we recommend hand washing in cool water and then air dry flat.

All of our yarns and fibers are individually hand-dyed using professional grade acid dyes. Colorway names are consistent between yarns/fibers dyed with the same dye colors, however color can (and likely will) vary between skeins and between different bases.

We make every effort to assure the colors in our photos are as accurate as possible, but please note that colors can vary from monitor to monitor.
