–Dye-to-Order: A Legacy – FDW 13th Anniversary Colorway

I invite you to celebrate Fibernymph Dye Works’ 13th Anniversary with my special new colorway, A Legacy. Let me introduce it to you by way of some family history:

When I was little, I took for granted that the women (and some of the men!) in my family made things. I don’t remember it being called “crafting” or “making” back then…it was just what these people in my life did. My mom sewed almost all of my clothes (and hers!) until I went to junior high. She dabbled with knitting and crochet here and there too, and she was an avid cross-stitcher for some years as well.

Her mother, my Nana, crocheted and knitted, though I think she favored the former based on the blankets I have that she’d made. She also embroidered. And her mother, “Große,” (pronounced “Grossie,” presumably short for the German word for Grandmother – Großmutter) made delicate lace edgings on things like handkerchiefs and tablecloths (I don’t know what craft she used to make them, possibly crochet?)

As my own crafting journey continues to evolve, and as I get older and think more about the women who came before me and what they did as much to provide for their families as to take part in an activity that they enjoyed, I wanted to celebrate my business’s anniversary this year by paying homage to this legacy in some way. After all, I believe that it was from this legacy that my business was formed.

My 13th Anniversary colorway, A Legacy, was inspired by one of the crocheted blankets I have, made by my Nana. I remember curling up in it as a child, wrapping up my dolls with it, and now it drapes the back of my chair where I often spend time doing my own crafting. It’s color progression of purple, blues, and greens couldn’t be better suited for me, and it makes me wonder if my Nana loved those colors just as much as I do? (See the second picture for my inspirations…both the blanket and the crafty women who came before me!)

I am currently offering A Legacy as a self-striping colorway and a mini skein set. Two progress keepers are also available. Read on for details of each, and then choose from the drop down menu above to pick which item(s) you’d like to order.

SELF-STRIPING

A Legacy is a seven stripe colorway featuring Eggplant, Dark Navy, Royal Blue, Springwater Blue, Crocodile Tears Green, Kelly Green, and Toxic Green.

A Legacy is shown on Bounce and Mountain Tweed BFL; the sample is knit in Bounce. It is available as a dye-to-order item on the following bases:

Bounce – fingering, 80/20 SW Merino/Nylon, 400 yards per 100-gram skein
Bedazzled – fingering, 75/20/5 SW Merino/Nylon/Silver Stellina, 438 yards per 100-gram skein
*Mountain Tweed BFL – fingering, 85/15 SW BFL/Donegal Nepp, 438 yards per 100-gram skein
Traveler – sport, 80/20 SW Merino/Nylon, 328 yards per 100-gram skein
Strong DK – DK, 75/25 SW Merino/Nylon, 245 yards per 100-gram skein

Optional Coordinating Mini – If you are ordering a self-striping skein, you’ll have the option of adding a coordinating mini skein for a flat fee of $3.50. This mini will be the same base as your self-striping skein. You are welcome to include a note with your order if you want a specific colored mini (refer to the colors listed for this colorway as your options), otherwise we will send one of our choice!

MINI SKEIN SET

The A Legacy mini skein set includes seven 20-gram minis, one in each of the seven A Legacy colors listed above. The mini set shown is on our Bounce base.

I have two special Progress Keepers/Stitch Markers to go along with the A Legacy theme. If used as stitch markers, they will comfortably accommodate knitting needles up to size US 10.5.The two designs available are:

Recommended care for yarn: Though these are superwash wools and can be machine washed, we recommend hand washing in cool water and then air dry flat.

All of our yarns and fibers are individually hand-dyed using professional grade acid dyes. Colorway names are consistent between yarns/fibers dyed with the same dye colors, however color can (and likely will) vary between skeins and between different bases.

We make every effort to assure the colors in our photos are as accurate as possible, but please note that colors can vary from monitor to monitor.
