Introducing the 2025 Choose Your Own Adventure MAL
Welcome to the 2025 Choose Your Own Adventure MAL! Below you’ll find the general guidelines for the make-along.
The Choose Your Own Adventure MAL will begin on January 1, 2025 and run through the entire year through December 31.
PARTICIPATING
To participate, you get to choose what your adventure will be for the year! Some ideas to get you started:
- Create a list of 25(ish) projects you’d like to complete in 2025.
- Create a list of 25(ish) stash yarns you’d like to use throughout the year.
(The number isn’t important…pick what works for you!) - Choose 12 projects or groups of yarn, put them in bags, and open one a month to use.
- Pick four large projects that you’d like to complete and assign them each to a quarter of the year.
- Pick a new craft that you’ve been wanting to try and set monthly goals for yourself to learn and work on it.
- Choose some WIPs that have been languishing and put them in a bin; pull from them throughout the year to get them completed.
Again, these are just ideas to help you get started. However you choose to plan your adventure is perfectly ok! And if you’d rather not plan for your adventure but just see where it takes you, that’s great too!
It’s important to note here that your adventure does not need to be experienced in just one way. You’re welcome to mix and match different plans if that’s better for you!
Your adventure also does not have to be all about fiber arts! You can choose non-yarn-y endeavors instead or in addition to — baking, gardening, pottery, jogging…whatever you want to work on in the coming year is perfectly fine!
There is a no-chatter Planning Thread available in the Fibernymph Dye Works Ravelry group if you’d like to create a planning list or outline there. This is totally optional.
There is also a chatter thread for the MAL in the Ravelry group. Head over there to start chatting about your adventure plans! One change to this year’s MAL is that this thread will also double as the main finished object (FO) thread so that we can all cheer you on throughout your making and finishing process!
If Ravelry is not accessible to you, or if you’d also like to participate elsewhere, please feel free to post about your projects and your finished objects on Instagram. The hashtag for the MAL will be: #FDWAdventure2025. You are welcome to post in both the Raverly threads AND Instagram. Whatever works best for you!
FIBERNYMPH DYE WORKS YARN/FIBER COMPONENT (Optional!)
This year, I’m adding back in a Fibernymph Dye Works yarn/fiber component to the MAL! This is completely optional and will work as follows:
If any of your projects are made using FDW yarn or fiber, you’ll be able to post your finished objects in the FDW FO thread in the Ravelry group, which makes you eligible for an extra prize draw each quarter.
For projects make with a variety of yarns/fiber other than FDW, at least one quarter of the grams of your FO must be FDW yarn/fiber to be eligible for posting in this thread. (Ex. A shawl that weighs 240 grams must be made with at least 60 grams of FDW yarn.)
Only new projects as of 2025 will qualify to be included in the FDW FO thread; FDW WIPs from years prior to 2025 are not eligible for this thread but they are most welcome to be posted in the main Chatter/FO thread.
If you spin FDW fiber that qualifies for the FDW FO thread and then later knit/crochet/weave with that same yarn, you are permitted to submit both the spun yarn FO and the knit/crochet/woven FO in the thread as separate FOs as long as they were both fully completed in 2025.
In addition to quarterly drawings, if you use at least 800 grams of FDW yarn/fiber during 2025, you’ll also earn a free skein of yarn/braid of fiber in an exclusive colorway at the end of the year! The FDW FO thread will be available as of January 1.
If Ravelry is not accessible to you, by January 1 I will provide a link to a form you can fill out online instead to submit your FDW FOs to be included in the quarterly drawings. You will need to be able to provide a link to your FO somewhere online along with the necessary yarn information. Check back for that link in January.
PRIZES
Prizes for this MAL will be drawn on a quarterly basis: April, July, October, and January 2026. There will be three prize winners each quarter: one each from the Chatter/FO thread, the FDW FO thread (plus any FO forms submitted), and one Instagram winner.
Because Instagram continues to be problematic with regard to seeing projects from specific time periods, any post using the #FDWAdventure2025 hashtag through 2025 will be eligible for prize drawings throughout the entire year, however, the same post can only win once in the year.
And again, if you’re taking part in the Fibernymph Dye Works yarn/fiber component of the MAL, if you use at least 800 grams of FDW yarn/fiber during 2025, you’ll also earn a free skein of yarn/braid of fiber in an exclusive colorway at the end of the year!
