September is National Suicide Prevention Month. October is host to Mental Illness Awareness Week (10/6-12/24); National Depression Screening Day (10/10/24); World Mental Health Day (10/10/24); and ADHD Awareness Month (adolescents and young adults with ADHD are reported to be at higher risk of suicide and self-harm).
In 2022, I lost my son, a US Marine veteran, to suicide. As you might guess, suicide prevention has become a cause dear to my heart. Because I was out of town earlier this month, I’m only now able to release my 2024 Suicide Prevention fundraiser colorway – This Day We Fight. It will remain available for pre-order through the end of October, in honor of the aforementioned awareness campaigns.

This year, between $5.00 and $20.00 per fundraiser item (see listings for specific donations amounts) will be collected and split and donated at the end of October to three organizations:
K9s for Warriors – Roughly twenty veterans a day end their lives. K9s for Warriors works to end suicide in the veteran population by training and providing service dogs to vets. The dogs often come from shelters, so their lives are being saved too.
The Trevor Project – The Trevor Project works with the LGBTQIA+ youth. In a nationwide survey in 2023, more than one in ten LGBTQ youth reported attempting suicide; a third of respondents reported seriously considering suicide in the past year.
CHADD – Did you know that adolescents and young adults with ADHD are at high risk for suicide and self-harm? Children and Adults with Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (CHADD) provides support to those with ADHD.
In an earlier blog post, I shared resources to get help if you or someone you know is struggling. That post has been updated and can be found here.
